Rockmount Day Care Centre is a community-based facility situated in the village of Kilgarvan, and welcomes clients from Killarney, Sneem, Kilgarvan and the greater Kenmare area.
The concept of our day care service is to offer an integrated model of care between statutory bodies and the local body of Kilgarvan Community Partnership.
Rockmount Day Care Centre, opened in 2003, is open six day a week from 9AM to 5PM Monday to Thursday and from 9AM to 4PM Friday and Saturday. The main function of our centre is to provide respite day care for older people, and also clients with Alzheimer’s and other dementia related illnesses.
The philosophy of care in Rockmount is to create a relaxed, peaceful and homely environment to promote health and social activities to enhance the lives of our clients. All individuals are supported to experience the highest level of health and social care needs being met with respect and dignity. The wellbeing of the client is priority and Rockmount care centre staff strive to deliver care to the highest possible standards.
Clients can be referred through their G.P. or P.H.N, and highly skilled staff at Rockmount can assist with any assessments required to maintain independence with activities of daily living.
Rockmount Staff encourage good communication with families to ensure the client is priority and thus, enable care needs to be met to the highest possible standard. Transport can be provided by the Rockmount car or bus which is wheelchair accessible, allowing all clients to avail of the service regardless of any mobility issues the person may have.
The Rockmount Daycare Centre is managed by former Sneem resident Mary Hussey, who qualified as a nurse with the Cope Foundation and left UCC in Cork with a BSc in Nursing in 2002. Returning to her native Kerry in 2005 she then began a five year stint working with young children in a children’s day service. Moving on from there she took up a post at Beaufort’s St Mary of the Angel, before taking up her current post here at Rockmount. She brings with her a wealth of experience suitably tailored to her new post and looks forward to welcoming old and new to the Centre as she takes over the reins with Rockmount in great shape under the former direction of retiring Nurse/Manager Bridie Dillon.
